Wow, Wendy! Great article!

For being very passionate about social media, and having had the opportunity to be a panelist on a couple of social media events in Chicago, I would say my to do would include being a speaker on an international social media event as well, regarding social media across cultures.

I like it. The geeky part? I guess it's OK. You mention often you are an engineer ;) Music I don't know but other than that not too bad !
All in all - I love who people put infographics together based on data they gather and make it visually attractive. Way cool.

Wendy, I actually do understand why Shankman will never hire a social media expert. Why should he? Somebody with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) need some different kind of consulting in the first place ;) Like most mom and pap shops the best way to deal with social media is to experience it on their own. There are not enough funds to hire any consultant - let alone one for social media.

"Social Media is just another facet of marketing and customer service" tells it all. Only if somebody has no real clue about social media makes statement like that - not worth going any further. I'd say - not even worth a comment.

Geoff, I agree that industry experience and a rich and diverse background make for some of the best social media "orchestra leaders". Especially if you are building a cross functional team. Southwest Airlines had over 70 years of diverse operations, customer services, sales, marketing and HR experience on their 4 person team.

Thanks Clinton, you actually reinforced my perception. I also met with someone on Friday that met him for real at the BlogWorld conference where he was a keynote 2 years in a row. Apparently they didn't think my statements were far off.

ha - Wendy, I think Peter's brash and annoying response was him approving of your description by "proving" it in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way.
